PROCEDURES FOR DISCIPLINE
In case of a disciplinary problem in the classroom or school setting (playground, recess, street or road going to or returning to school):
The teacher may take disciplinary action including:
Oral or written reprimands.
Referral to counseling.
Written notification of parents (copy to principal - FILE). (Use C13)
Other measures approved by the principal and faculty (See instruction for faculty concurrence).
Remove the student from the classroom and send to the principal's office IF the student prevents orderly instruction, poses a threat, or is disrespectful.
The teacher may require a conference with the student, parents and principal.
Any other option that the school faculty and administrators come up with. (THESE OPTIONS MUST BE IN WRITING). The principal shall meet with the faculty to establish all discipline alternatives available for the teachers use in the classroom.
NOTE: Once the child has been removed from the classroom he/she shall not be returned to that classroom that hour.
The principal or his/her designee shall provide due process to the student but must implement one of the following:
In-school suspension.
Detention (High School Only).
Require the completion of all assigned work during suspension.
Any measure authorized by the principal with the concurrence of the teacher, faculty, or Building Level Discipline Committee.
Out of school suspension.
Expulsion.
Each school must establish a Building Level Discipline Committee:

When the principal and the teacher cannot concur, the matter will be resolved by the Building Level Discipline Committee.
RULES FOR IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION
In-school suspension shall be used by the principal or his/her designee to remove a student from his/her normal classroom setting while maintaining the student under supervision within the school. The assignment of a student to in-school suspension will be made by the principal or his/her designee.
The time, place, supervision, appropriate student behavior, and specific tasks of the student assigned to in-school suspension will be the responsibility of the principal or his/her designee.
Ordinarily the student will receive credit for any work assigned to the student during in-school suspension.
Should a student fail to participate in or comply fully with the rules for in-school suspension, he/she will be judged as insubordinate and subject to more severe disciplinary procedures.
The Clinic shall be used as an in-school suspension. Only short term suspendable offenses may be considered for in-school suspension.
After a student has been assigned to Clinic for the third time, the student may be suspended upon his fourth visit to the principal. (Out-of-School Suspension).
The student, assigned to Clinic for one hour, may return to his/her next class.
RULES FOR DETENTION
Detention shall be activities and assignments, after the normal school day, assigned by the principal or his/her designee. The assignment of a student to detention shall be made by the principal or his/her designee.
The time, place, supervision, appropriate student behavior, and the specific tasks of the student assigned to detention will be the responsibility of the principal or his/her designee.
Ordinarily the student will receive credit for any work assigned to the student during detention.
Should a student fail to participate in or comply fully with the rules for detention, he/she will be judged as insubordinate and subject to more severe disciplinary procedures.
Detention should be considered only for short term suspensions.
