CLASS RANKINGS
The West Baton Rouge Parish School Board, in order for class rankings to be determined on a uniform basis in the parish high schools, requires each high school to determine the student rank of each graduating class in accordance with the following:
First and second semester grades shall be averaged mathematically including summer school and correspondence grades applied by the appropriate number of semesters. Every course taken for Carnegie credit shall be used, including those failed. Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) shall be calculated to three (3) decimal places. In the case of a tie for first or second place, co-valedictorians or co-salutatorians shall be named. In order to be considered for valedictorian or salutatorian, two (2) years residency will be required (160 days of the junior year and 160 days of the senior year, for a total of 320 days). Foreign Exchange students shall not be eligible for the valedictorian and salutatorian positions.
In determining the top 5% of the graduating class, descending order based upon the above method will be used in accordance with the "Louisiana Honor Scholarship" Program. When a tie exists for the last position in the top 5%, the following shall be used beginning with number one until the tie is broken.
"Core" classes will be averaged. Core classes are English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
ACT scores shall be compared. If only one student has a score, that will take precedence.
Composite LEAP scores shall be compared. The higher score shall take precedence.
MIDDLE SCHOOL AWARDS/RECOGNITION
During the first two (2) weeks of May, all 8th grades students shall have the opportunity to participate in an 8th grade awards/recognition program.
Honor Students
Any student whose final grades (Reading, English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and P.E.) for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, and an average of three (3) nine-weeks in the 8th grade, average 3.0 or higher, from any accredited schools for the above mentioned grades, will be considered as honor students.
