EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT

ENROLLMENT IN RETIREMENT SYSTEMS

Upon initial employment, employees are required to enroll in the respective retirement system for which they are eligible.  Eligibility requirements for retirement are established by the retirement systems.

NOTIFICATION AND EFFECTVE DATE OF RETIREMENT

It is the policy of the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board that an employee wishing to retire shall submit written notice of this intent to the School Board.  An employee’s retirement shall become effective at the date submitted and deemed eligible.  When the retirement becomes effective, the employee is no longer considered to be in an active service with the School Board.

No individual shall be discharged or forced to retire because of age.

DISABILITY RETIREMENT

In accordance with statutory provisions, employees may be eligible for disability retirement for total and permanent disability at any age after five (5) years of service credit.  To obtain disability retirement an employee shall file an application for same which shall include a statement form one or more physicians attesting to such disability. The application shall be considered for approval by the Medical Board of the employee’s respective retirement system.  All options available under service retirement are also available under disability retirement.
