PART-TIME EMPLOYEES
From time to time, the West Baton Rouge Parish School System has a need to employ individuals on a part-time basis. These employees traditionally work less than the regular school or fiscal year and/or work less than the normal working hours of full-time employees in the same department. Employees may be hired for a specific task or for the purpose of providing assistance in managing an overflow of work, and the employment terminates when the task has been completed or the overflow has been resolved. Such employees may also be hired to fulfill various responsibilities associated with grants or other funding sources, in which case the lengths of their employments will be determined by the duration of such funding.
Part-time employees are not entitled to the same benefits afforded to full-time employees. Part-time employees hired after July 1, 2010 shall not be included in the group hospitalization plan for the school system. Part-time employees who were included in such plan on or prior to July 1, 2010 shall be allowed to continue, and the School Board shall pay all or a portion of their premium for health and group hospitalization insurance.
Part-time employees also do not accumulate sick or annual leave. After six months of consecutive employment; however, any part-time employee who works a minimum of fifteen (15) hours a week may access up to five (5) days leave annually which is equivalent to the number of hours worked per day.
Part-time employees shall be expected to comply with the same rules of conduct, the same job requirements, and the same policies applicable to full-time employees performing the same or similar job duties.
