A Regular Meeting of the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board was held this date with the following membership:

Present:

                  G. Alden Chustz, Jr., President, Craig Sarradet, Ronald LeBlanc, Chareeka Grace, Jason Manola, Michael Maranto

Absent:      

                  Dr. Atley D. Walker, Sr., Vice President, Toby Sarradet, Leon Goudeau, Teri Bergeron,

Mr. Chustz gave the Invocation.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Chustz.

The next item was approval of the Regular School Board Meeting minutes held on May 18, 2022 and Special Board Meeting on April 27, 2022.

Whereupon, the following resolution was offered by Mr. Manola and seconded by Ms. Grace:

Be it Resolved, That the approval of the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting, held on May 18, 2022 and Special Board Meeting on April 27, 2022 be approved as presented.

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:

Aye:     Mr. Craig Sarradet, Mr. LeBlanc, Mrs. Grace, Mr. Manola, Mr. Maranto, Mr. Chustz

Nay:     None

Absent:            Mr. Toby Sarradet, Dr. Walker, Mr. Goudeau, Mrs. Bergeron

The next item was Education Presentations:  Mr. Watts presented the Head Start Director’s Monthly Reports, as prepared by Ms. Crystal Leon, which is included in the Board’s individual packets.

Whereupon the following resolution was offered by Mr. LeBlanc and seconded by Mr. Craig Sarradet:

Be it Resolved that the Board approve the Head Start Director’s Monthly Report.

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:

Aye:     Mr. Craig Sarradet, Mr. LeBlanc, Mrs. Grace, Mr. Manola, Mr. Maranto, Mr. Chustz

Nay:     None

Absent:            Mr. Toby Sarradet, Dr. Walker, Mr. Goudeau, Mrs. Bergeron

The next item was the Superintendent’s Report:  Mr. Watts updated the Board on the Reimagine grant.

The Chairman declared the floor open for public comment

The next item was a Resolution of condolences to the Family of Mrs. Edith Landy Settoon, former School Food Service Worker for West Baton Rouge Parish School District.

Whereupon the following resolution was offered by Mr. Craig Sarradet and seconded by Ms. Grace:

Be it Resolved that, members of the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board do hereby offer their sincere sympathy and condolences to the family of Mrs. Edith Landy Settoon.

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:

The next item was a Resolution of condolences to the Family of Mrs. Ora Harris Dean, former School Bus Operator for West Baton Rouge Parish School District.

Whereupon the following resolution was offered by Mr. Maranto and seconded by Mr. LeBlanc:

Be it Resolved that, members of the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board do hereby offer their sincere sympathy and condolences to the family of Mrs. Ora Harris Dean

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:

The next item is Unfinished Business:

Jason Manola stated the following for Brusly Landmarks Plaques:

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, the Town of Brusly Landmark & Heritage Commission presented 3 of the attached plaques to buildings on the original Brusly High School campus:

1936 -1937 5 classroom building, adjacent to the gym, built by WPA at same time the gym was being built;

1950 long white building, built as the "new" high school after the 1911 wooden 2 story building was demolished;  

1957 4 classroom building, constructed as the area population began to grow.

Ms. Paige Phillips, Principal of Brusly Upper Elementary School, has the plaques and certificates for the 3 buildings.

The next item was presentation of the Consent Agenda:

#9        Consideration of request for approval of the Food Service Bid Summary for the 2022-2023 School Year.  (Finance Committee Report 6/14/22)

#10       Consideration of request for approval of the monthly expenditures and financial reports for April 2022.  (Finance Committee Report 6/14/22)

Whereupon, the following resolution was offered by Mr. LeBlanc and seconded by Mr. Craig Sarradet:

Be it resolved that the Board does hereby approve and adopt the Above Consent Agenda Items #9 and #10.

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:

Aye:     Mr. Craig Sarradet, Mr. LeBlanc, Mrs. Grace, Mr. Manola, Mr. Maranto, Mr. Chustz

Nay:     None

The next item was End of Consent Agenda Item #11 Consideration of request for review and approval of the WBR Parish Schools 2022-23 Student Handbook be added as an Agenda item.

Charlotte Blanchard went over the one change.

The Chairman declared the floor open for public comment.

Whereupon the following resolution was offered by Mr. LeBlanc and seconded by Mr. Manola.

Be it resolved that the Board add Agenda item #11 Consideration of request for review and approval of the WBR Parish Schools 2022-23 Student Handbook be added as an Agenda item

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:

There being no further business to come before the board, the following resolution was offered by Mr. Craig Sarradet and seconded by Mr. Manola:

Be it Resolved, That the meeting be adjourned.
