A regular meeting of the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board was held this date with the following membership:

 

Present:           Jason P. Manola, President, Toby Sarradet, Dr. Atley D. Walker,Sr., Ronald P. LeBlanc, Leon N. Goudeau, Rose A. Lee Roche’, Teri Bergeron

Absent:             Craig Sarradet, G. Alden Chustz,Jr., Michael A. Maranto

 

Alexander Robinson, Chamberlin Elementary School student, and Ellis Campbell, Port Allen Elementary School student, lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Whereupon, the following resolution was offered by Mrs. Roche’ and seconded by Dr. Walker:

 

Be It Resolved, That approval of the minutes of the regular board meeting held on November 15, 2017, be deferred.

 

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:

Aye:                 Mr. Toby Sarradet, Dr. Walker, Mr. LeBlanc, Mr. Goudeau, Mrs. Roche’, Mrs. Bergeron, Mr. Manola

Nay:                 None

Absent:             Mr. Craig Sarradet, Mr. Chustz, Mr. Maranto

 

The next item was educational presentations.

 

Whereupon, Superintendent Watts introduced Mrs. Claudette Purnell, Director of the WBR All Parish Choir.  Mrs. Purnell introduced the members of the choir, and Mr. Jim Barnett, Keyboard Accompanist.  The Choir’s performance was a medley of Christmas songs.  Mr. Manola and members of the board thanked Mrs. Purnell, Mr. Barnett, and the members of the Choir for their beautiful Christmas musical presentation.

 

The next item was recognition of Ms. Lacy Behl/LACUE Regional 2 Elementary Teacher of the Year, Dr. Tammy Seneca.  Dr. Seneca reported that WBR had twelve (12) presentations at the recent LACUE Conference in New Orleans.

 

The next item was the Superintendent’s report.  Superintendent Watts reported that the Students of the Year and Teachers of the Year would be introduced to the board at a later date.

 

The next item was a report from Community Committees/Agencies.

 

Whereupon, Mrs. Teri Bergeron reported that 250 children/106 families had received toys and sweatshirts from Santa’s Helpers.  Mrs. Bergeron thanked the students from the WBR Parish Public Schools and students from Holy Family School that conducted toy drives to contribute to Santa’s Helpers. She expressed her appreciation to all volunteers that assisted to make this year very successful.  Mrs. Rose Roche’ reported that students in the Port Allen Middle School BETA Club had assisted at the City of Port Allen Christmas Dinner for Senior Citizens and she expressed her appreciation to the students and staff at Port Allen Middle School.

 

The next item was presentation of the following items on the Consent Agenda:

 

8.                Consideration of approval of the request by Mr. Earl Kern, Program Manager for the Building Program, that a detailed abstract report on the Chamberlin and Devall Middle School properties be presented by Advanced Abstracts, LLC at the Buildings Committee meeting on January 9, 2018. 9.                 Consideration of approval of the request by Mr. Earl Kern, Program Manager for the Building Program, that Deumite Construction LLC, low bidder for the Cohn Elementary School additions and renovations, be awarded the contract for said project. (Buildings Committee Report 12/12/17)

10.             Consideration of approval to name the new school in the North end of the Parish: Northside School, official school colors: blue, white, and silver, official school mascot: Blue Jay (Buildings Committee Report 12/12/17)

11.              Consideration of approval of the request by Superintendent Watts to allow Dr. Michael Ramagos to address the committee on January 9, 2018, relative to a federally funded School Based Clinic Program. (Buildings Committee Report 12/12/17)

12.              Consideration of approval of the request by Dr. Tammy Seneca to use student emails on a case-by-case  basis this school year for students to earn Google certification. (Academics Committee Report 12/12/17)

13.              Consideration of approval of the request by Dr. Walker to adopt a resolution of Condolences for the family of Mrs. Genevie Williams, retired Business Education Teacher at Brusly High School and Port Allen High School, at the regular board meeting on December 20, 2017. (Academics Committee Report 12/12/17)

 

The Chairman declared the floor open for public comment.

 

Whereupon, the following resolution was offered by Mr. Toby Sarradet and seconded by Mr. LeBlanc:

 

Be It Resolved, That the board does hereby approve and adopt Consent Agenda items #8, #9, #10, #11, #12, and #13 as presented, and

 

Be It Resolved, That the members of the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board do hereby extend to the family of Mrs. Genevie Williams their feelings of sincere appreciation for the many years of dedicated service that Mrs. Williams rendered to the students in the West Baton Rouge Parish School System, and

 

Be It Further Resolved, That the members of the Board do hereby express their sincere sympathy and condolences to the family of Mrs. Genevie Williams.

 

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:

There being no further business to come before the board, the following resolution was offered by Mr. Goudeau and seconded by Dr. Walker:

 

Be It Resolved, That the meeting be adjourned.

 

The above resolution was adopted by the following vote:
